The vibe here is amazing!!! So chill. Sitting outside and listening to the live music. Food for sharing, would get the dips, pitta, Greek salad, halloumi, lamb kebabs and olives.

Vibe is the reason why you have to come visit Golden Fleece if you're in Greektown. Founded in 1970, Golden Fleece has stood proudly on Monroe Street for over half a century, making it the oldest continuously operating classic Greek restaurant in Greektown today. Everyone here is friendly, especially when they serve the most Greek dish, Saganaki, the waiter/waitress will shout out "Opa!" Loudly before squeezing fresh lemon juice to extinguish the flame. The cheese becomes beautifully charred on the outside and wonderfully melted and stretchy on the inside. Also ordered their Gyros and Lamp Shank, gyros was good while not great, while the Lamp Shank slow-simmered overnight in a rich reduction of tomatoes, red wine, and Mediterranean herbs, flavors weights more than the tenderness.

Did My Research... Thought This Was The Best Place to Go. Sadly Was Quite Disappointed! Plus the Forced 20% Auto Gratuity Just Added Insult to Injury... I want to start this review by saying the owner did personally address one of my main concerns... and while I do appreciate the gesture, it doesn't change that I was far from impressed by this place. I'll also say that I'm from Toronto, which has the largest Greek community in North America. Because of that, I've had a lot of very good Greek food in my lifetime, and it's quite easy to tell when a restaurant is either cutting corners or simply doesn't "get it" in terms of how Greek food is supposed to be served. Golden Fleece, unfortunately, falls into that category in my opinion. Here's what I had... Appetizer - Halloumi and Tomato ($14) Halloumi is one of my favourite cheeses, so I was super excited about this at first. I don't think I've ever had halloumi that was anything short of "Above Average". However, I would classify this as worse than "Below Average" at best. It was drowned in balsamic, had no crust, and the cold tomato slices were quickly warmed up by the hot cheese, which was very unpleasant. Main Course - Lamb

Stopped in for a quick lunch while passing through Greektown and was so glad I did! Had the saganaki and gyro plate and they were both amazing. Lisa did a great job taking care of our group!

Have been going to the Golden Fleece, an authentic Greek restaurant located at 525 Monroe St, Detroit, in the heart of Greektown, since the 70s. It has been known for its traditional dishes, late-night food options, and vibrant atmosphere. The restaurant has a cozy, authentic atmosphere that was renovated in 2020 to add a more modern aesthetic while preserving its original charm. The food continues to be incredible and serves the best gyros, period!
